AoAwo Naruto Resort: Harvesting Tokushima’s Naruto Kintoki Potatoes

Between September 1 and November 30, 2026, AoAwo Naruto Resort invites travelers to engage with the agricultural heritage of Naruto City through its seasonal sweet potato harvesting program. The experience centers on the Naruto Kintoki, a local brand of sweet potato distinguished by its vibrant red skin and refined sweetness, a result of the unique sandy soil found along the Tokushima coastline.

Harvest Experience at the Private Farm

The harvesting activity takes place at a private farm located seven minutes from the resort. Guests are guided through the process of digging for the tubers, which are enriched by the minerals of the local soil. Each participant is permitted to take home approximately 1kg of their harvest as a souvenir. On-site, the experience is complemented by a tasting of small roasted potatoes, offering a direct encounter with the season’s flavors.

Gourmet Delights and Naruto Kintoki Sweets

The resort’s culinary program incorporates the harvest into its daily offerings. The “Awa Zanmai” buffet features regional specialties, including freshly prepared Naruto Kintoki tempura and a nightly tuna carving demonstration. At the Terrace Cafe Ohge, a dedicated autumn menu includes Naruto Kintoki parfaits, tarts, and smoothies. For a more casual engagement with the local produce, the marketplace features a “Naruto Kintoki Catcher” game, where guests can attempt to win the prized tubers.

Cultural Experiences and Ocean-View Relaxation

Beyond the agricultural activities, the resort serves as a hub for Tokushima’s cultural traditions. Nightly performances of Awa Odori, the region’s traditional dance, are held on-site, alongside workshops for Awa Blue Dyeing (indigo) and Ohtani-yaki pottery painting. The property features 15 distinct room types, including the Awa Ai (Indigo) rooms and the Van Gogh Sunflower rooms, the latter inspired by the nearby Otsuka Museum of Art. Relaxation is centered around natural onsen (hot springs) that overlook the Seto Inland Sea, where guests may observe the “Moon Road,” a lunar reflection that appears on the water’s surface.
