Hotel Nikko Nara Debuts Stay Plan Supporting Wildlife Conservation

Hotel Nikko Nara has introduced its first collaboration with the Foundation for the Protection of Deer in Nara (Nara no Shika Aigokai), titled “Your Trip Connects to the Future of Nara’s Deer.” This accommodation plan integrates wildlife conservation into the guest experience, directing a portion of proceeds toward the protection and welfare of the deer in Nara Park, which are designated as national natural monuments.

Seasonal Encounters and Guest Benefits

The launch of the plan coincides with the deer birthing season in June, providing guests the opportunity to observe fawns in the park. Travelers booking the plan receive a voucher for one bundle of shika-senbei (deer crackers) and an original sticker sheet provided by the Foundation for the Protection of Deer in Nara. Additionally, the hotel provides a custom Hotel Nikko Nara Tsubame Note, a classic Japanese stationery item, to help guests document their interactions with the city’s famous free-roaming inhabitants.

Supporting the Foundation for the Protection of Deer in Nara

The Nara no Shika Aigokai is tasked with the ongoing care and breeding of the local deer population. Their responsibilities include operating the Rokuen rescue facility for injured animals, conducting scientific research, and maintaining cultural traditions such as Shikayose (deer calling) and Shika-no-Tsunokiri (antler cutting). By selecting this plan, guests contribute to the ecological balance and the continued coexistence of humans and wildlife within this UNESCO World Heritage landscape.
