From June 15 to September 30, 2026, the riverside cafe Saryo Hassui at Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto, will serve its seasonal kakigori (shaved ice). This limited-time sweet treat is crafted using pure ice made from deep natural waters of the Shinshu region, shaved to a light, fluffy texture designed to melt instantly on the palate.

Seasonal Flavors: Mandarin and Enhanced Matcha
The 2026 lineup features two distinct flavors tailored for the summer season. The new Mandarin and Yogurt Espuma combines homemade mandarin syrup and tangy yogurt espuma with mandarin agar jelly hidden inside and juicy fruit segments on top. The classic Matcha flavor has been renewed for a deeper profile, using Uji matcha syrup, rich matcha ice cream, and red bean paste sourced from the historic Kyoto confectioner Kameya Yoshinaga.

The Historic Riverside Setting of Saryo Hassui
Guests can enjoy these chilled delicacies at Saryo Hassui, a cafe housed in a historical building over 100 years old known as Hasshoken. The venue offers 34 seats, including a terrace with prime views of the Hozugawa River and the lush green slopes of Arashiyama. The experience provides a tranquil space to engage with the traditional Japanese concept of mushiyashinai—satisfying hunger with a light snack.

The Hassui no Kakigori is available daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at a price of 3,800 yen, which includes a choice of beverage. The setting, nestled within the grounds of a property that opened in March 2015, allows visitors to observe the changing colors of the Arashiyama landscape while partaking in a refined version of a classic Japanese summer staple.
