Earthboat Kitakaruizawa Reopens with 11 Lakeside Sauna Cabins

Earthboat Kitakaruizawa is scheduled to reopen on August 31, 2026, following a relocation and expansion within its existing villa grounds. The project increases the facility’s capacity from three to 11 private units, now situated around a quiet retention pond. This move emphasizes a “Nature Escape” concept, utilizing the site’s mature trees and Asama stone gravel to integrate the architecture into the forest and waterfront landscape.

A Choice of Wood-Burning or Electric Sauna Cabins

The 11 units are categorized into two primary models: the Earthboat Hut and the Earthboat Nomad. The Hut units are designed for those seeking a traditional experience, featuring authentic wood-burning saunas. The Nomad units provide the convenience of electric saunas, catering to families or groups. Every unit is equipped with an outdoor bath that serves as a cold plunge pool, a central component of the Finnish-style sauna cycle.

Four distinct room configurations are available. The Nomad Deck, designed for two guests, features a double bed and an outdoor living space oriented toward the pond. The standard Nomad and Hut models accommodate up to four and three guests respectively, utilizing a combination of queen or double beds and traditional futons. Interior spaces are finished in natural wood, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the surrounding greenery.

Onsen Integration and Sustainable Land Use

The flagship Hut model distinguishes itself by offering a private open-air bath supplied with water from the local Asama Yumoto Onsen. This onsen (hot spring) feature allows guests to experience geothermal bathing alongside their private sauna sessions. The use of locally sourced stone and timber throughout the facility reflects the project’s commitment to the regional landscape.

The development represents a broader initiative to regenerate idle land. By transforming a previously unused area around a retention pond into a lodging destination, Earthboat aims to create a sustainable tourism model that operates year-round. The inclusion of climate-controlled cabins and private saunas ensures the facility remains functional across the shifting seasons of North Karuizawa, supporting the local economy through consistent land utilization.
