Summer Evening Retreats at Takanawa Prince Hotels’ Garden

The Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo, Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa, and Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa will present “TAKANAWA Zekkei Yusuzumi” (Takanawa Scenic Evening Cool) from July 13 to September 13, 2026. Centered on a 20,000-square-meter Japanese garden, the event provides a seasonal retreat designed to offer respite from the urban summer heat through traditional aesthetics and contemporary hospitality.

A Serene Summer Escape in Takanawa’s Historic Garden

During the event period, the expansive garden grounds will be illuminated by take-akari (bamboo lanterns), creating a soft, rhythmic light display that complements the natural landscape. These installations are positioned to guide guests through evening strolls, emphasizing the cooling atmosphere that has long been a hallmark of Japanese summer traditions. The garden serves as a shared sanctuary for the three Takanawa properties, offering international travelers a quiet alternative to the city’s busier districts.

Chilled Delicacies and Ice Carving at Saryo Ean

From July 18 to 20, the Saryo Ean tea house—a structure designed by the mid-century architect Togo Murano—will open as a limited-time pop-up cafe. The menu features a Japanese sweets set that includes mizu-manju (water dumplings) and mango mousse. A notable highlight is the matcha latte served in glassware carved entirely from pure ice, providing a tactile and visual sense of coolness. Additionally, guests can order a premium shaved ice topped with Kyoho and Shine Muscat grapes.

On July 18, the hotels’ master ice sculptor will lead a specialized workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to use traditional tools to carve their own functional ice glassware, learning the techniques used to create the vessels served in the tea house.

Authentic Cultural Traditions: Yukata and Fireworks

To further the experience of yusuzumi (enjoying the evening cool), the hotels offer a yukata (casual summer kimono) rental and dressing service. This allows guests to be professionally fitted in traditional attire before exploring the garden. The seasonal program is further enriched by handheld fireworks sessions held within the garden grounds for Seibu Prince Global Rewards members, providing a rare opportunity to engage in this classic summer pastime within a central Tokyo setting.
