The Tokyo Station Hotel has announced a limited 13-day afternoon tea series at its Guest Lounge Atrium, scheduled for select dates in September and October 2026. The event marks the first chapter of a global tea journey, focusing on the culinary traditions of South Asia with a menu inspired by the flavors of India and Nepal. Developed in partnership with the London-based luxury tea brand NEWBY, the experience integrates regional spices and trade history into a curated selection of savories and sweets.

Curated Pairings and the Silk & Steam Blend
The tea selection features six varieties from NEWBY, headlined by “Silk & Steam,” an original blend created specifically for this series. The signature tea utilizes a base of smoky Lapsang Souchong layered with notes of rose, designed to evoke the atmosphere of historic trade routes. The menu emphasizes specific pairings to enhance the profile of each tea; for example, the smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches are served alongside Silk & Steam, while a brisk Uva tea is paired with cumin-flavored sautéed red shrimp to balance the intensity of the spices.

Historic Architecture within the Atrium
The venue for the event, the Guest Lounge Atrium, is a space typically reserved for staying guests. Located directly beneath the roof of the iconic Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building, the lounge is defined by its nine-meter-high ceilings, extensive skylights, and exposed red brick walls that date back over a century. This architectural setting provides a bright, open environment where visitors can observe the structural heritage of the station while dining.

The Ongoing Global Series
This South Asian chapter is the beginning of a year-long series exploring global tea cultures. Following the October conclusion of the current theme, the journey will shift to the Middle East in November and December, highlighting ingredients such as nuts, roses, and aromatic spices. The voyage is set to conclude in early 2027 with a focus on the United Kingdom, the home of NEWBY and the traditional birthplace of afternoon tea culture.
