Situated on the cliffs of Hokkawa Onsen with views extending over Sagami Bay, Kissho CAREN has introduced a commemorative accommodation plan to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Shizuoka Prefecture. The “Gourmet Journey of Shizuoka’s Blessings” is designed to showcase the culinary heritage of the region’s three historic provinces: Suruga, Totomi, and Izu. Guests are invited to experience a specialized French kaiseki (a traditional multi-course meal) that centers on the prefecture’s most celebrated ingredients, including Alfonsino and Ise lobster.

A Culinary Journey Through Shizuoka’s Land and Sea
The anniversary menu at Restaurant Four Seasons focuses on the diverse bounty found within Shizuoka’s borders. The French kaiseki dinner incorporates local specialties like kinmedai (Alfonsino) and Ise lobster, prepared with techniques that highlight their natural flavors. This seasonal offering reflects the resort’s commitment to regional sourcing, bringing together the distinct tastes of the coastline and the mountainous interior.

Seasonal Delicacies and Regional Pairings
Included in the commemorative plan are four exclusive culinary gifts. Guests begin with a trio of nigiri sushi featuring horse mackerel, tuna, and bigfin reef squid, served alongside a cup of “Kaiun” sake from the historic Doi Sake Brewery. A centerpiece of the experience is the “Wasabi Don,” which utilizes premium Amagi wasabi—a variety historically favored by the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu—grated over freshly shaved katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes) from Yaizu. The meal concludes with a blancmange crafted from Shizuoka melon and Izu Guri tea.

Signature Hospitality and Infinity Onsen Experiences
Beyond the celebratory dining, the resort maintains its standard of “Kissho Hospitality,” which includes afternoon tea with pancakes, sunset aperitifs on the terrace, and evening sweets. The property is known for its “Hekikai” infinity open-air bath, where the water appears to merge with the ocean. At night, guests may witness the “Moon Road,” a lunar reflection on the water’s surface. The stay is further complemented by traditional yukata rentals and access to the public Kurone Iwa-buro bath, with seasonal activities such as sparklers available on the terrace.
