A Summer Retreat at Kissho CAREN: Infinity Springs and Coastal Dining

Located on the elevated slopes of Hokkawa Onsen, Kissho CAREN has announced a specialized summer retreat plan running from July 1 to August 31, 2026. The program is designed to provide a restful environment for adult travelers, combining the therapeutic properties of private-source hot springs with seasonal culinary experiences and the quiet aesthetics of a Japanese summer by the sea.

A Refreshing Summer Reset by the Sea

The retreat centers on sensory engagement with the coastal environment. Guests can spend time on the terrace, where the sound of traditional glass furin (wind chimes) accompanies views of the ocean. During the day, the terrace serves seasonal frozen cocktails crafted from banana or passion fruit, offering a cooling contrast to the summer heat. The property’s infinity onsen (hot spring) baths provide panoramic views of the sunrise and the “Moon Road,” a natural phenomenon where the moonlight creates a shimmering path across the water.

Exquisite French Kaiseki and Seasonal Delicacies

Dining at restaurant Four Seasons features the “Bimi Shosan” course, a kaiseki (multi-course meal) that integrates French techniques with premium local ingredients. The menu includes Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), Ise lobster, and sea urchin, served in refined portions intended to be enjoyed with chopsticks. The meal begins with a champagne toast and concludes with a botanical mojito. For breakfast, guests may choose between a traditional Japanese spread or a teppan (iron griddle) breakfast, where a chef prepares fresh French toast and omelets to order.

Authentic Omotenashi and Wellness Experiences

The stay is complemented by various omotenashi (hospitality) services, including an afternoon tea of New Summer Orange crepes baked on a teppan grill. In the evenings, guests can participate in the traditional practice of lighting sparkler fireworks while wearing yukata (light cotton robes). Wellness options include treatments at Kissho Spa using camellia oil from Izu Oshima, or a visit to the historic Kurone Iwaburo, a seaside open-air bath located a short walk from the property.
