Seasonal Peach and Muscat Tea at Kyoto’s Historic Hotel Chourakukan

Hotel Chourakukan, situated within Maruyama Park, will host a seasonal “Peach and Muscat Afternoon Tea” from August 1 to August 31, 2026. The service is held in the Geihin-no-Ma, a reception room in the main building that is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Originally built in 1909 as a villa for Murai Kichibei, known as the “Tobacco King,” the venue provides a historical backdrop for a menu focused on the delicate sweetness and aromas of summer fruits.

Summer Fruits in a Historic Setting

The tea service follows a traditional British style, presented on a three-tier stand with sweets and savories designed to reflect the season. Highlights include a mousse made with the hotel’s original Royal Peach Rose tea and a verrine of Muscat and cream cheese finished with lime zest. The savory selection incorporates regional and seasonal ingredients, such as Kamo eggplant, prosciutto paired with peach, and smoked chicken accompanied by mozzarella and Muscat grapes.

Seasonal Sweets and Savory Delights

Freshly baked scones, available in plain and cranberry varieties, are served with clotted cream and jam. The experience concludes with an Omotanoshimi-no-Hitotsura (pleasurable dish) featuring a smooth peach granita. For those seeking a different profile, guests may opt to pour champagne over the granita to enjoy it as a cocktail. This addition is available for a supplement of 1,100 yen, while a seasonal cocktail option is available for 550 yen.

A Refreshing Finish in the Geihin-no-Ma

The Geihin-no-Ma itself is a study in early 20th-century architectural fusion, blending various international styles to create a space that has served as a reception hall for over a century. The afternoon tea offers a quiet retreat from the Kyoto summer, allowing guests to experience the city’s cultural heritage through both the setting and the seasonal menu. Reservations are required for groups of two or more, and the service is restricted to guests aged 12 and older.
