Royal Park Hotel Tokyo Marks Tanabata with Seasonal Menus and Light Displays

The Royal Park Hotel in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district will host its “Summer Star Festival Where Wishes Come True” from July 1 to July 31, 2026. This month-long event commemorates Tanabata, the traditional Japanese festival celebrating the annual meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi across the Milky Way. The celebration integrates seasonal gastronomy across four on-site restaurants with an immersive light installation in the main lobby.

Japanese Craftsmanship and Teppanyaki Flavors

At Genjikou, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, guests can reserve a kaiseki (traditional multi-course meal) dinner designed to evoke the summer night sky. The menu features uozomen (fish-based noodles) and seasonal hamo (conger eel), with dishes arranged to reflect celestial themes. On the 20th floor, Teppanyaki Sumida offers a weekday lunch course featuring sea bass sautéed with a white wine herb sauce representing the Milky Way, followed by a comparison of domestic beef fillet and sirloin, served alongside panoramic views of the city skyline.

Chinese Specialties and Western Dining

Keika-en, the hotel’s Chinese venue, presents a lunch course exploring “two flavors” in honor of the star-crossed lovers. The menu includes duck prepared in two distinct styles and large shrimp seasoned with basil and garlic. At Chef’s Dining Symphony, located on the first floor, a dinner course is served beneath the hotel’s central chandelier. Highlights include a “Paris-Soir” cold soup and ribeye steak with garlic butter, concluded with a refreshing melon soup and sherbet.

Immersive Tanabata Lobby Display and Architecture

The hotel lobby hosts a three-meter-tall take-akari (bamboo light) installation, designed to mimic the flow of celestial light. This display sits beneath the hotel’s permanent Milky Way-themed chandelier. Guests are invited to write their wishes on traditional tanzaku (colored paper strips) and hang them among the bamboo decorations, participating in a custom that spans centuries. The Royal Park Hotel, which opened in 1989, remains a prominent fixture in the historic Nihonbashi area, offering 419 guest rooms and direct access to major transit lines.
