Art and Gastronomy: Anko Miura at THE HIRAMATSU Karuizawa Miyota

Throughout October 2026, THE HIRAMATSU Karuizawa Miyota will host a dialogue between contemporary art and French gastronomy. The collaboration, titled “Tracing the Memories of the Land,” features Paris-based artist Anko Miura, whose intricate, maze-inspired works will occupy the hotel’s public spaces and influence the seasonal menu at its signature restaurant, Le Grand Lys.

Tracing the Memories of the Land

Anko Miura is known for a meticulous style that has been exhibited at venues including Louis Vuitton and BVLGARI. In preparation for this event, Miura spent time in Miyota during June 2026, drawing inspiration from the local landscape and the producers of the Shinshu region. The resulting works, completed in her Paris studio, reflect the natural environment surrounding the property. These pieces will be displayed throughout the hotel from October 1 to 31, 2026, allowing guests to encounter her vision in a residential setting.

A Collaboration of Artistic Expressions

The intersection of art and cuisine culminates in a special collaboration dinner. Executive Chef Akio Yanagihara has developed a menu that translates Miura’s aesthetic into the medium of food, utilizing regional Shinshu ingredients. From October 23 to 25, the artist herself will join guests for a series of exclusive dinner evenings. These sessions include an aperitif and a full course dinner with drink pairings.

A notable feature of the pairing menu is the “Les Bulles d’Amour 2023 GRAND CRU,” a rare champagne limited to 300 bottles. The bottle’s etiquette was designed by Miura, further bridging the gap between the visual and sensory experiences of the event. Guests attending the three-day special event will have the opportunity to discuss the creative process with the artist in the restaurant’s dining room.

Miyota’s Forest Grand Auberge

Located at the southern foot of Mount Asama, THE HIRAMATSU Karuizawa Miyota is situated within a 60,000 m² forest. Recognized with two Michelin Keys in the 2025 Michelin Guide Hotel Selection, the property is designed as a “Grand Auberge,” where the stay is secondary to the culinary experience. The hotel comprises 28 rooms in the main building and nine individual villas, each featuring terraces and semi-open-air baths that overlook the surrounding greenery.
