Located on the private island of Awashima in Shizuoka’s Suruga Bay, Awashima Hotel offers a secluded escape defined by 360-degree maritime views. Accessible only by boat, the resort has announced a new series of summer culinary programs beginning July 7, 2026. These menus emphasize local production, drawing from the seafood of Suruga Bay and seasonal ingredients harvested from the Izu mountains.

French and Japanese Interpretations of the Season
At the French restaurant Island, the summer full course focuses on coastal delicacies and premium proteins. The menu includes steamed abalone served with a refreshing gazpacho, Suruga Bay sea bass poire, and grilled Kokaba beef fillet sourced from Kumamoto. The presentation reflects the bright, clean flavors associated with the height of the Japanese summer.

For those seeking traditional flavors, the Japanese restaurant Kai serves a summer kaiseki (traditional multi-course meal). This menu highlights the proximity to Numazu Port with fresh sashimi and features salt-grilled ayu (sweetfish) seasoned with Nishi-Izu Toda salt. The meal also incorporates a regional favorite, Kokaba beef, prepared in a sukiyaki style to showcase the marbled texture of the meat.

The Selectable Aperitif Fair
To complement the seasonal menus, both restaurants are hosting the Selectable Aperitif Fair. Diners can begin their evening with a choice of four premium beverages. Options include Taittinger Nocturne champagne in either white or rosé, or a sophisticated non-alcoholic choice of Paul Giraud Jus de Raisin. Additionally, the premium Royal Blue Tea “Fall in Love” is available, served in a wine glass to appreciate its aromatic profile.

A Retreat Defined by Suruga Bay
The experience at Awashima Hotel begins at the hotel’s private pier, followed by a five-minute boat crossing that separates guests from the mainland. With only 60 rooms, the property maintains a quiet atmosphere where the primary focus is the surrounding sea and the silhouette of Mount Fuji across the water. The summer menus are designed to be enjoyed alongside these vistas, providing a sensory connection to the Shizuoka landscape.
