Fauchon L’Hotel Kyoto Debuts Seasonal Melon Afternoon Tea

From August 12 to September 30, 2026, Salon de Thé Fauchon at Fauchon L’Hotel Kyoto will host the ‘Melon Summer Afternoon Tea.’ This seasonal menu centers on the melon, utilizing a variety of preparations that bridge French culinary traditions with local ingredients. A notable technical detail of the offering is the use of Sennen-sui, high-quality groundwater drawn from a well located on the hotel property, which is used in the creation of the Melon Soda Parfait.

A Seasonal Tribute to Melon

The afternoon tea menu includes both sweet and savory applications of the fruit. Guests are served a mint-infused melon soup and a classic pairing of prosciutto with melon. The dessert selection features melon-themed pastries and macarons, alongside melon-pan style scones—a reference to the popular Japanese sweet bread. The experience is accompanied by signature Fauchon teas, with the option to include Melon Champagne.

The Melon Soda Parfait serves as a centerpiece of the tea service. By incorporating Sennen-sui (ancient groundwater), the hotel highlights the specific geological characteristics of its Shimogyo-ku location, blending the city’s natural resources with the brand’s Parisian identity.

Champagne and Gastronomy at Grand Café Fauchon

On the hotel’s top floor, Grand Café Fauchon is offering a ‘Champagne Free-flow’ plan from July 17 to August 31. This program features the brand’s signature Brut Champagne, produced via the traditional method, paired with Kyoto-French course meals. The restaurant’s elevated position provides views across the Kyoto cityscape, creating a distinct environment for summer dining.

Additionally, a special one-day event is scheduled for July 30. This event will feature a French buffet paired with free-flow beer and a lucky draw, intended as a communal gathering to mark the peak of the summer season.

The Intersection of Paris and Kyoto

Fauchon L’Hotel Kyoto is the second property globally under the Fauchon name, following the original in Paris. The hotel operates under the ‘Fauchon Meets Kyoto’ concept, which seeks to integrate French gastronomic standards—including a lineage of pastry expertise from chefs such as Pierre Hermé and Dominique Ansel—with the cultural context of Japan’s former capital.
