Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel to Launch Autumn Afternoon Tea Featuring Shiga Produce

Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel has announced the “Autumn Afternoon Tea -Shiga’s Autumnal Blessings-,” a seasonal dining experience celebrating the harvest of the Shiga region. Running from September 1 to November 30, 2026, the service is hosted at the hotel’s 12th-floor restaurant, offering panoramic views of Lake Biwa as the landscape transitions into autumnal tones. The menu is designed to balance the freshness of Shine Muscat grapes with the rich, earthy profiles of local ingredients.

Regional Flavors from Land and Water

The culinary presentation is anchored by a glass coupe dessert that layers Shine Muscat with Omi herbs, showcasing the prefecture’s botanical diversity. The selection of sweets incorporates traditional autumnal ingredients, including a tartlet made with chestnut and Omi hojicha (roasted green tea), and a baked sweet potato en croûte. These items are crafted to reflect the deepening colors and flavors of the season through a mix of local produce and classic pastry techniques.

Savory Interpretations of the Shiga Harvest

The savory menu highlights Shiga’s most recognized delicacies. Guests can sample Omi beef roast beef paired with dried persimmon on open sandwiches, and Biwa salmon served with light smoke and pickles. The selection also features a soup made with Eigenji Maitake mushrooms and Tankai milk, emphasizing the earthy characteristics of the region’s land-based bounty. Each dish is portioned to complement the sweetness of the fruit-forward desserts.

Curated Pairings with a Lakeside View

To accompany the meal, the hotel provides a specialty Apple Pie Tea alongside nine varieties from the Art of Tea collection and freshly brewed coffee. The service is staged at Grill & Dining G, where the elevated position provides a quiet atmosphere for international travelers to observe the seasonal changes across the lake. The visual presentation utilizes glass vessels and maple leaf motifs to enhance the thematic connection to the Shiga autumn.
