AKA LODGE: A Sustainable Retreat on Okinawa’s Aka Island

Located approximately 70 minutes by high-speed ferry from the Okinawa main island, AKA LODGE by THE TERRACE HOTELS is scheduled to open on June 15, 2026. Situated on Aka Island within a protected national park, the resort is positioned amidst the clear waters known locally as “Kerama Blue.” The property operates under the concept of “Harmony with Nature, Return to Nature,” providing a sustainable resort experience designed to integrate with the island’s coral reefs and natural environment.

The resort’s location within a national park necessitates a commitment to environmental preservation. AKA LODGE serves as a primary hub for the Terrace Nature Foundation, an organization dedicated to coral reef preservation and environmental education. This focus allows guests to engage directly with the island’s biodiversity, which includes the protected Kerama deer. The property also maintains “Our Farm,” an on-site agricultural initiative that reflects the resort’s dedication to local sustainability.

Refined Accommodations Inspired by Island Nature

The lodge consists of 12 guest rooms, intended to offer a small-scale luxury experience that combines island warmth with functional design. There are five distinct room types available, accommodating various traveler needs from solo guests and couples to families requiring two-bedroom suites. Interiors are characterized by the use of natural wood and vibrant fabrics, with unique art pieces selected for each room. To minimize the environmental footprint of each stay, the resort provides eco-friendly amenities throughout the accommodations.

Commitment to Conservation and Local Heritage

Facilities at AKA LODGE are designed to encourage a slower pace of island life. A rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of the surrounding sea and serves as a space for guests to experience the island’s climate and breezes. This architectural approach aligns with the resort’s goal of fostering a deep connection between visitors and the natural landscape of Aka Island. By balancing high-end hospitality with active conservation efforts, the property seeks to preserve the local heritage for future generations.
