Nikka Highball Paradise Debuts at InterContinental Sapporo

InterContinental Sapporo has introduced “Nikka Highball Paradise” at its ninth-floor bar, Norva. The interactive program invites guests to construct a personalized highball from a selection of whiskies, mixers, and botanical accents, set against the city’s skyline as it transitions from twilight to evening.

A Modular Approach to the Highball

The event focuses on the versatility of the highball, offering more than 6,000 potential combinations. This modular format allows visitors to explore the nuances of the Nikka portfolio, ranging from the robust Nikka Frontier to the complex From the Barrel. The experience is designed to be interactive, encouraging guests to discover a “special glass” that suits their specific palate while overlooking the shimmering city lights.

Four Steps to a Signature Blend

The assembly process follows a structured order sheet in four stages. Guests first select a base spirit, followed by a mixer—ranging from standard carbonated water and ginger ale to local specialties like Hokkaido’s Co-up Guarana. The third stage introduces flavor notes such as yuzu, ginger, or hinoki (Japanese cypress), while the final step adds a dry garnish like cardamom or sansho (Japanese pepper). For those preferring a professional recommendation, a “Bartender’s Choice” option allows staff to craft a recommended blend.

Tiered Plans and Non-Alcoholic Alternatives

Three distinct two-hour free-flow tiers are available. The Standard Plan provides access to over 4,000 combinations, while the Premium Plan incorporates distinguished labels including Yoichi, Miyagikyo, and Taketsuru. Recognizing the demand for temperance options, a Non-Alcoholic Highball Paradise utilizes three spirit-free whiskies to offer over 1,500 unique flavor profiles, ensuring the experience is accessible to all guests.
