Hotel Intergate Kyoto Shijo Shinmachi occupies a strategic position for the Gion Matsuri, one of Japan’s most significant cultural events. During the Ato-matsuri (Latter Festival), the hotel stands directly before the Minami-kannonyama, one of the massive Yamaboko floats that has paraded through Kyoto for over a millennium. Rooms facing Shinmachi Street provide a direct view of these towering structures as they navigate the narrow historic thoroughfare.

Participation in the Hikizome Ritual
On July 20, 2026, the hotel offers a specific plan for guests to join the Hikizome, a traditional trial pull of the massive float. Participants assist in moving the structure along Shinmachi Street in front of the hotel, recreating the motion of the main procession. This experience is open to all generations and includes traditional talismans, such as a Chimaki and an amulet intended to ward off evil.

Close-Up Views of Cultural Assets
From July 21 to July 23, 2026, a separate viewing plan provides access to the Minami-kannonyama itself. Often described as a “moving museum,” the float is adorned with ornate textiles and artworks, including pieces by the celebrated Japanese painter Matazo Kayama. Guests with viewing tickets may climb onto the structure to observe the historic Kyoto townscape from an elevated perspective, a unique vantage point typically reserved for festival participants.
