Heritage and Craft: Hotel Indigo Nagasaki’s New Luxury Plan

Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street has introduced a premium four-day, three-night itinerary designed to connect guests with the cultural and artisanal history of the Hirado Domain. Entitled “THE ART OF HERITAGE,” the experience centers on a stay in a suite within the hotel’s main building, which incorporates preserved historic architecture to reflect the unique character of the Minamiyamate neighborhood.

Sake Heritage and Cathedral Dining

The journey includes a private visit to the Senryu Sake Brewery, an establishment dating back to 1688. Guests are granted access to the “Motogura,” a Nagasaki Prefectural Tangible Cultural Property, and the “Suisuisha” villa, which historically hosted daimyo (feudal lords). These sites offer a rare look at the architectural and brewing traditions maintained for over three centuries.

Culinary experiences under the plan are tied to the region’s history. A special dinner is served at Restaurant Cathedréclat, a space that functioned as a cathedral for more than 120 years. The menu features dishes inspired by historical records of daimyo feasts, presented on Mikawachi porcelain, bridging the gap between archival culinary research and modern gastronomy.

The Artistry of Mikawachi Porcelain

A significant portion of the itinerary is dedicated to Mikawachi porcelain, a craft historically reserved for presentation to the Shogunate and the Imperial Family. At the Hirado Koushou Danuemon kiln, guests observe the intricate techniques required to produce these refined ceramics. The experience continues at the Hirado Shozan kiln with a private workshop tour and a hands-on session in sometsuke (blue-and-white) painting, allowing participants to engage directly with the medium’s traditional motifs.

The service utilizes a C680 Citation Sovereign, capable of traveling from Haneda to Nagasaki in approximately 120 minutes.
