Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street to Donate One Thousand Cranes

Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street, a luxury lifestyle hotel housed in a historic building over 120 years old, has announced a communal peace initiative. Starting July 6, 2026, guests and hotel staff will work together to create Senbazuru (one thousand origami cranes). This collaborative effort aims to provide guests with an opportunity to reflect on Nagasaki’s history and the importance of peace while staying in a building that serves as a testament to the city’s past.

Connecting Peace Culture to the Future

The initiative allows travelers to engage directly with a core element of Nagasaki’s identity. Participating guests can fold cranes at the front desk located on the first floor of the Main Building using provided origami paper. The activity is designed to bridge the gap between visitors and the local neighborhood’s enduring commitment to peace culture, turning a stay into a moment of quiet reflection.

Inspired by Youthful Peace-preneurship

The project was proposed by a young staff member following their participation in an international forum focused on developing “Peace-preneurs”—individuals who combine peace-building with entrepreneurship. After engaging with diverse values and learning about peace initiatives globally, the staff member envisioned a way for the hotel to share Nagasaki’s message with international travelers. This grassroots proposal underscores the hotel’s role in connecting neighborhood stories with the wider world.

About the Historic Luxury Destination

Located in the Minamiyamate-machi district, the hotel reflects unique neighborhood stories through its architecture and atmosphere. The folding period will run from July 6 to July 25, 2026. Following this, the completed Senbazuru are scheduled to be donated to Nagasaki Peace Park on August 7, 2026. This date coincides with the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Victims Memorial Peace Prayer Ceremony, ensuring the guests’ contributions become part of the city’s official commemorations.
