Summer Fruit Afternoon Tea at Hotel New Otani Makuhari

Hotel New Otani Makuhari has announced a seasonal afternoon tea service at its Penthouse Lounge Bay Court Cafe, designed around the theme of an “edible beauty treatment.” Running through the height of summer, the menu focuses on three specific fruits chosen for their seasonal benefits: hydration-rich melon, skin-protecting mango, and peach for fatigue recovery. Guests can enjoy these flavors while overlooking the expansive waters of Tokyo Bay from the hotel’s 24th floor.

A Seasonal Trio and Signature Shortcakes

The centerpiece of the experience is a triple tasting of the hotel’s signature shortcakes. This includes the Super Melon Shortcake, a hallmark of the New Otani brand made with Shizuoka musk melon that boasts a sugar content of at least 14%. It is served alongside strawberry and mango varieties, allowing for a direct comparison of the seasonal profiles. The top tier of the service is rounded out with a mango roll and a melon tart, each utilizing produce at its peak ripeness.

Savory Bites and Refreshing Glass Sweets

Beyond the cakes, the middle tier introduces cooling glass sweets such as mango and peach jellies, complemented by a contemporary peach and strawberry fruit dango (rice dumpling). The savory selection on the lower tier provides substantial contrast, featuring Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black beef) smash burgers, Mexican tortillas, and bamboo charcoal rice croquettes. The meal is further supported by a suite of side dishes, including a chilled soy-milk corn potage, lomi-lomi salad, and lemon-salt fries, concluding with a peach parfait topped with a pistachio macaron.

Panoramic Perspectives from the 24th Floor

Located 100 meters above ground, the Bay Court Cafe offers a serene environment for observing the transition of light over Tokyo Bay. On clear days, the silhouette of Mount Fuji is visible in the distance. The experience includes a selection of over 10 varieties of tea, ranging from classic Darjeeling and Assam to Nilgiri and a seasonal green rooibos, allowing guests to pair their meal with diverse aromatic profiles throughout the 120 or 150-minute seating.
